Khajuraho

The temples at Khajuraho were built during the Chandella dynasty, which reached its apogee between 950 and 1050. About 20 temples remain; they fall into three distinct groups and belong to two different religions – Hinduism and Jainism.
Recently rediscovered during the early 20th century the temples are decorated with sculptures ranging from every day scenes to erotic tableux. (if you do get an opportunity to visit, pack a broad mind - some of the scenes are very graphic)

The sculptures and carvings when examined closely do have a narrative. One theory is that the sculptures were meant to undertake an educational role allowing young people to prepare themselves for the role of “householder” through study of the sculptures and their depictions.

If this was the case, they are still as relevant for newlyweds today as then.
