Jai Singh's Observatory - Sundial

This is one of many astronomical instruments commissioned by Jai Singh II.

The main problem with observations of the day was the ability to record accurate measurements to the second. Smaller instruments couldn’t be calibrated to that level of fine detail.

The answer was both simple and inspired. By scaling up the instruments, gradations to the second, could be marked and read of from the arc.

Just brilliant.
